Accident Prevention for Children
Motor Vehicle
- Restrain the kid during a safety seat for all car trips.
- Place the child in the car's back seat, away from airbags.
- Closely supervise the child outdoors.
- Provide fenced-in play areas.
- Teach child never to run into the road.
Drowning
- Supervise the child near all water-bathtubs, toilets/pools, sinks, small basins, and so forth. A small child can drown in a very small amount of water.
- Empty small pools after use. Fence in pools
- Teach child not to run near bodies of water.
Fire and Burns
- Turns handles of pans toward center of stove.
- Keep child away from the stove, fire, matches, electrical cords, sockets
- Set hot water heater temperature at 120 degrees F - 130 degrees F
- Test water temperature before immersion.
- Use safety covers on electrical outlets.
Falls
- Gate stairways; teach the child to hold railings.
- Open windows from the top. Use windows guards.
- Move furniture away from upstairs windows.
Ingestion and Aspiration
- Avoid feeding the child nuts, grapes, popcorn, raisins, hard candy, or lollipops.
- Childproof the home for coins, pins balloons,-especially near the crib.
- Teach the child not to run with objects in the mouth and not to open things with teeth.
Poisoning
- Keep child-proof caps on toxic products.
- Store and lock all medications and vitamins, out of children's reach.
- Read labels carefully before using any drugs.
- Inspect homes you are visiting for safety hazards.
